GUST Professor becomes Associate Editor at Prestigious Journal

Associate Professor of Business at GUST, Dr. Omar Moufakkir, has recently been invited to serve as an Associate Editor for the academic journal, Annals of Tourism Research. He will serve a two-year term which will conclude in 2023 but which is renewable upon merit.


Annals of Tourism Research is a social sciences journal published by Elsevier in the UK. It focuses on the academic perspectives of the business of tourism. While striving for a balance of theory and application, the journal is ultimately dedicated to developing theoretical constructs. Its strategies are to invite and encourage offerings from various disciplines; to serve as a forum through which these may interact; and thus expand frontiers of knowledge and contribute to the tourism and hospitality scholarship and practice. It both structures and is structured by the research efforts of a multidisciplinary and international community of scholars. The journal holds an impact factor score of 5.905, which makes it the leading journal in the field.


As an Associate Editor, Dr. Omar Moufakkir’s role entails evaluating papers and deciding whether to desk reject the submission or send it through the review process until a final decision is made. This means that Dr. Omar plays a critical and constructive role ensuring that manuscripts published in Annals of Tourism are interesting, contribute substantially to knowledge, and are of the highest quality.

Dr. Omar has previously published in Tourism Management a Q1 tier academic journal and has also published a book titled Ideological, Social and Cultural Aspects of Events (2015).
